Developers
A pump station works by collecting sewage, wastewater or surface water and storing it in a chamber constructed of plastic or concrete rings. When the collected sewage reaches a certain level, the water/sewage is lifted through a discharge system using a pump, some stations use a single pump, while others use multiple, the liquid is then pumped to a discharge point such as a sewage treatment works or gravity sewer.
The Two Types of Pump Stations
There are two main types of pump stations: private pump stations and adoptable pump stations.
Private Pump Stations
Private pump stations are generally installed at smaller developments that are run privately, in both the commercial and residential sectors. These stations are used for removing wastewater or sewage from properties and discharge to a sewer, drain or detention basin depending on the application.
Adoptable Pump Stations
Adoptable pump stations are installed at developments for both houses and industrial applications. They must be compliant with all sewage, construction, and water company regulations. These stations are used for removing sewage or wastewater to relevant discharge points such as the public sewage system or compliant treatment facility / pond etc.
